I’ve published my usual pre-election post for the election next Tuesday, February 11, 2025. It’s the school board primary for races with three or more candidates, plus a bunch of school districts have bond issues on the ballots, several counties are voting on new taxes, and a few charter cities have elections as well. In Tulsa County, TPS and BAPS each have a single school board seat on the ballot, Jenks and Owasso districts have school bond issues (Owasso’s is almost $200 million combined), and Owasso has a city council race. Next door, Wagoner County is voting on a new quarter-cent sales tax to pay a federal court judgment against the sheriff’s office.
Today (Friday) is the last opportunity to vote early; no Saturday early voting for this election.
Other recent writing on BatesLine:
Boethius vs. CHE at the University of Tulsa: Dueling worldviews at two different conferences, one on medieval philosophy, one at TU’s new “Center for Heterodox Economics” (the clue is in the initials).
Lee Matthews back on air; Tulsa still lacks local talk radio: Lee landed on his feet after iHeart layoffs, but only in OKC. Still no mass-media outlet to discuss local politics her in Tulsa.
House 71 and House 74 special election filing: The candidate field is set for two Tulsa County House seats vacated by recently re-elected representatives who got better jobs.
(There was yet another filing period this week, for municipal elections in several charter cities, including Broken Arrow. More on that another time.)
