Filing for House 71 and House 74
Three months after the seats were filled, we're getting ready to vote again.
A quick update today: Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, is the third and final day of filing for special elections for two Tulsa-area seats in the State House of Representatives. Two recently re-elected solons, Tulsa Democrat Andrea Swope (HD 71) and Owasso Republican Mark Vancuren (HD 74) have resigned to take government jobs closer to home; Swope has gone to work for Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols and Vancuren is now chief deputy to County Commissioner Lonnie Sims. I was asked today what I think of Attorney General Gentner Drummond running for governor. I replied that he’s a liberal pretending to be a conservative, as evidenced by his campaign contributions. He won in 2022 with massive help from dark money. Have a look at what I wrote about Drummond during his 2022 race against incumbent John O’Connor and what I wrote when he ran for the same office in 2018. Drummond gave $1,000 to Biden for President in 2020 and has supported other Democrats for US House when control of Congress was on the line. He supports two systems of law and justice based on ancestry. I was at a meeting last week where one of his aides announced that Drummond’s office was going to be pushing around (“coordinating the efforts of”) non-profits working against human trafficking. Drummond is trying to build an early lead to scare off other candidates and their potential donors. We’ve got 15 long months until the primary. There will be much better options on the ballot.
